APA style was developed by the American Psychological Association to help writers consistently format papers and document sources. It's commonly used in the disciplines of nursing, the social sciences (such as psychology and sociology), and education. This page includes APA resources to help you succeed. You may want to browse the FAQs for quick answers to specific questions (such as how to format hanging indentation for your reference list), or delve into the more in-depth resources from the APA itself, Purdue OWL (a well-known university writing center), and our library.
Don't forget to consult any information that has been provided by your instructors or your program (such as the nursing program), including any templates that have been provided to help you format your paper correctly. For nursing students, you can find those resources in your web course folder for your paper assignment.
Our library resources (such as our book catalog and article databases like CINAHL) include citation tools to help with APA style and other citation styles. As a best practice, always double-check citations generated through computer programs, including library databases or other citation generators as they may contain errors.
For more citation help, see the library's Citation Help page or Ask a Librarian.
These selected resources are a supplement to information that has been provided by your instructors/program. Nursing students in particular should check the web course folder for your paper assignment, where you'll find a sample paper and helpful documents on formatting your paper and creating in-text citations and references in APA format. If a blank template is provided, it's intended that you save the document and use it for your own paper (rather than cutting and pasting it into a new document), so that the margins, font, and other formatting are already correctly provided.
